Introduction

Despite the fast growing number of digital books, it is known that majority of the people still prefer to read books from a physical one. According to the studies, people enjoy the feel of the paper pages and keeping a physical copy helps them appreciate the books as their own belonging. However, it is hard to give up on the convenient aspects about a digital book such as its ability to access millions of different books with just one-click.

Variable Reality takes the advantages of both physical and digital books in augmented reality and brings a unique reading experience to the users. It not only is able to bring up different copies of digital books on a single physical book, but also integrates natural hand gestures (using Leap Motion) that serve as a quick and convenient input mechanism.
